Woohooo yellow!

So, I'm working the Northeast Ohio market (Cleveland, Akron, etc.). Here's what I know...

WQAL - HAC Cleveland - Awesome about playing requests once they've broken a song, but pretty much they won't play a new song unless its from a really established artist or it first appears on their "Now Music Challenge". I'm followed on twitter by the evening DJ who picks those songs... he's seen my requests, but hasn't responded. I'm patiently waiting. The MD is good about answering my tweets.. He knows I'm waiting for the song, but said something like "Maybe the NMC?" so I wait, and hint, and occasionally request from the pm rush and weekend DJs who don't see my twitter obsession.

WMVX - HAC Cleveland (Unmonitored).. they have a really weird playlist and play lots of old stuff. I don't listen to them often, so I'm not sure how they respond to requests, but they follow me on twitter, so that's good, I guess.

WKDD - HAC Akron - They played the hell out of LLWD, but don't actively promote requests on the air. The station twitter follows me, so I've made requests that way and via email. In the evening, they play Billy Bush (ick), so no local programming. I have no idea how they break new songs.

One general strategy I've observed regarding twitter: Don't just tweet them something about Kris. Respond to their other tweets, request other songs, comment when they play something you like, etc. When I hear LLWD, I might tweet something like "Until you can start playing Alright With Me, I love hearing Live Like We're Dying... or something like that" or "Aww, you played my Bruno Mars request AND you played @krisallen? You rock".. basically, not making it look like I'm using them just to push one particular song, but instead I'm a fan of the station who appreciates their other stuff.

It's late, and I've rambled... I hope that makes some sense. Go Yellow!
I live in SC so I'm on this team.

I've requested AWM a few times on Mix 97.7 and they said that they would play it, but I don't think they did :(
Hellooo yellow team!! :D

I have also done my fair share of requesting within the past couple of days but they havent played it yet. I live in the Miami, Fl area so i will definitely be working with these stations. I started calling a bunch of FL stations the other day and got some good feedback from stations.

However, a lot of stations rely on what Y-100 (the equivalent to NYC's Z100 in our area) plays. So the trick here would be getting it added to y100's rotation. Once they start playing it, im sure most of the surrounding station will as well. :)

I request AWM on Y100 regularly without spamming or being annoying but they haven't played it. :( What do we have to do to get some of the larger market stations to add songs??

Hi Yendi!

Do you know how Y100 typically introduces new songs? Do they have music challenges or a new song hour or something like that? Since Kris isn't (yet) the hit machine that a Lady Gaga or someone is, he may be stuck waiting til his song gets intro'd the standard way. If you know how the stations intro new songs, maybe you can target your requests to that DJ or whoever makes the decisions for that segment?

Hey! Thanks for the reply.

They don't really do new music challenges or anything like that. They are one of those stations that play gaga, katy perry, kesha, usher over & over again lol. But I would think that if I had to target a particular DJ it would be the night DJ from like 7-10 because I think he sometimes plays new songs. He's who I usually call to request, & he'll be like "sure, coming right up"....but never plays it. lol
I just talked to one of the FL stations and the DJ was really nice. He said that he had been getting a few requests for the song but that he did not have it yet. I talked to him a little bit and he said that the station hadn't received the song yet from the label. He told me if he had the song he would play it though. ;D

IDK how all that stuff works but if the song was released to radio how is it that some do not have it?
Where the rest of the Yellow Team ppl at?!!? ;D

Anyway, I put together this spread sheet of most FL stations so its easier for us to call and stuff. It's not perfect & its missing a bunch of Adult Contemporary stations because i don't feel they'd play AWM all that much since its such a fun pop song.

I made some notes after talked to some DJ's lol so u can get a feel for them. And a lot of stations didn't answer! Either way, have fun requesting! :D & let's get AWM on the radio!!!

It looks a little something like this:

I think it would be a good idea if all of u would do this for ur state. Like that it'd be easier to request and make notes of the feedback from the radio station.

If you would like to view the complete file & get the template, let me know & i'll send it to u.

Also, im gunna try this 'upload a file' button & see if u guys can grab a PDF from here! :)

Hi Guys! I am on the yellow team too.

My station Mix 105.1 (WOMX) looks like it will be an auto add next week. YAY. They are the same radio station that is sponsoring the Christmas concert at HOB on December 5 with the Goo Goo Dolls. They really seem to love them. I will continue to request the song every couple of days.
*waves* I'm here too lol

It seems as though AWM has been added to my local station (B93.7) but idk for sure. I tweeted a dj about it and he said he hadn't heard the song yet but that he'd give it a listen, so idk what that's supposed to mean lol. I request it every day tho, so hopefully they'll decide to play it one day
Yay Yellow!

That's a great chart, Yendi. I'd love a template of it. Maybe it would help to have another column to add the market rank of the station and whether or not they're monitored to make it easier to see which ones might be the best ones to focus on, so long as it's reasonable listening distance from where we're at.

Here's a list of stations that shows stations format, rank, program and music directors, and phone numbers. I'm not entirely sure how up-to-date it is, but I guess it helps:

Some of what I have for Michigan:

96.3 WDVD - HAC - Detroit

They added LLWD fairly early one and played it quite a bit, but never played/added TT. They only auto-add songs. They have a Music Advisory Panel that you can sign up for on their site to rate new music and help them determine what to add. When requesting TT through the contact part of their website, I've only received email back from one dj, who is also their music director, Jesse Addy. He emailed me back once saying TT was a cool song. Another time when I requested TT he said he'd play NoBo in a few minutes- which he did and then said on air how he might be the only person who likes that song. :/

98.7 Amp Radio WDZH - Top 40 - Detroit

Fairly new Top 40 station that played the heck out of LLWD towards the end of its climb up the charts while they were promoting their Amp Live concert with Kris and Boys Like Girls. I've never had too much luck getting through their phone lines and haven't come across anything on their website to request songs at, so I occasionally tweet them. They once tweeted me back saying that they'd play TT, but never did. A few of the times that I've tweeted them about AWM, I included a video of it from their concert that had some truly loud "yeah"s.

95.5 (Channel 955) WKQI - Top 40 - Detroit

Um, I honestly thought this station was too rhythmic leaning to play anything by Kris, but they did apparently add LLWD last February. So I guess it's worth a shot requesting with them.

100.3 WNIC - AC - Detroit

They're AC, so I wouldn't make them priority or anything, but they are the ONLY AC station to have ever added TT, and the only Detroit station that I've ever heard TT played on, so I guess they really like Kris.
Hi *waves* I'm from Kentucky and really new to this radio requesting thing. Does anyone have a chart like the one Yendi made, or just a link to Radio stations for Kentucky area ? I'm very willing to call/vote/email etc. but I just don't know where to start :(
Thanks!

Thats awesome! I actually did want to put in the market rank but didn't have a site to get that info from. Thanks for the link, i'll be sure to update it! :)

As for a template, let me try attaching one on here to see if that works for u.
