Little Pawns

This week’s weekly mission, should you choose to accept it, is to send a letter to a magazine, encouraging them to feature Kris... it can be any (relevant) magazine, local (like Arkansas 501 Life Magazine) or national you know you wanna see Kris in “O” the Oprah Magazine!  Ok, that might be a little unrealistic, but there’s nothing wrong with aiming high, people.

Write to your favorite magazine: your request has more of a chance of being taken seriously if you come across as a fan of that magazine as opposed to a Kris fan desperately seeking publicity.  A little sucking up doesn’t hurt:  Tell them why you enjoy their magazine so much and why Kris is just the person to be featured by their publication!

Give them an angle: For example, tell them about Kris’s amazing philanthropic work (his mission trips, Haiti, Toms shoes, Bridge 2 Rwanda, the recent Little Kids Rock and Blackbird Academy/Music Empowers events).  Explain his appeal and why readers would be interested in finding out more about him.  Include a pic, perhaps – cute sells!

Tweeting the magazine is not enough.  Nothing says you’re serious and makes more of an impact than putting pen to paper (or ink to printer).

Who should you contact?  Look in the masthead in the front, pick out the editor with the most relevant area,

search for their contact info online and/or call to get it.

Celebrity mags, music mags, teenage mags, charity mags…Kris is relevant to all these and deserves to be on their radars!

Bear in mind that we might not know the results of our labors, if any, for months but patience is a virtue, right?  Also, thanks to Ross for the great idea – this is why the brainstorming thread is so awesome!

Leave a comment here and say which magazine(s) you are contacting so we avoid a swarm of people all writing to the same place, saying
the same thing.  If you want to

post what you’ve sent, feel free… and if you get any responses, please share
them here!

Happy writing!

Yeah, if Oprah's doing an episode showcasing humanitarian efforts or something, Kris would be perfect for that episode as a "celebrity" example or whatever.
What about including Lizzie or Jive's contact information in the letters to make it easier for them? Do we have that conveniently somewhere? We should so we can always direct publicity to the right people if the opportunity comes along.

With all his buffness lately I'd love to see him back in People's Sexiest issue but I'm pretty sure that's driven by OTT celebrity or the need to promo something.
What about contacting the magazines that are in the Sunday newspapers - Parade Magazine and USA Today Weekend? I know one of those did a piece on him after he won Idol.

I have written to Oprah 3X through her show's web site to have Kris as a guess. I pointed out Kris' humanitarian efforts before and after Idol. I also sent a twitter to Jamie Fox because maybe he can ask Oprah to have Kris on her show. I believe Oprah likes Jamie Foxx. I mention to Jamie Fox that Kris respects him and has mention him during some interviews. I remember that Kris has said that Jamie Fox gave him some good advice when he was a mentor on American Idol. Think it may be time for another note/twitter to Oprah.

I have an issue of Life Story Magizine(the title explains it all, it tells the life story of celebrities) So I'll write to them and ask them about maybe doing one on Kris. I think that particular magizine would be more interested in what all he does for charities. The issue I have is David Archuleta's and it's really detailed and(the date it was published) had what was going to happen in the future with him. They also included like 6 pages of pictures. That would be really exciting! A whole magizine about Kris! <3 So I will try my best to write/type them a detailed letter. This is really awesome for all of us to be doing thanks for having the great idea! :D
I'm gonna try and write People magaine!
Ooh, this sounds like it would be an awesome Magazine to get Kris featured in. Good luck!

I just now read this post for the first time (actually I just read the first little bit--haven't read any replies yet except for Elle's). It's funny because I was in Wal-Mart =( tonight and glanced at the magazines, thinking it's a shame they haven't featured Kris on anything. Why do you have to misbehave or get married or divorced to get press? I saw several with Carrie's pic on the cover. So then I was thinking that we're evidently going to have to start a campaign to get Kris on some magazines too. And then I see here that you've already started! =) I've thought about writing to Parade for some time now, and this past week someone wrote in asking about Train, lol. So I may just act like a dummy and ask them what Chris Allon has been up to. ELLE: You go girl!!! Since you're also an Adam fan, you might be the perfect person to convince them that Kris is awesome too! We need to make a list of all of Kris's charitable causes for easy reference. Maybe Oprah would be impressed with his trips to Rwanda, Thailand, etc. The guitar story should get them. It gets ME.
