Little Pawns

Calling all Purple Pawns!

With the upcoming release of Kris’s new single, it’s time for the humble pawn to show its strength.  We’re talking promo, of course… there are many ways you can help.

Pre-Release

1.    Check the Radio Station List for your area (click on the appropriate tabs - Purple HAC and Purple Pop) at the bottom of the document).  We want to make sure this is as up-to-date as it can be.  If you see a radio station not listed, a radio station’s website, twitter, or Facebook page that’s not included, please add that information as a comment below.

2.    Pick a radio station (or two, or three) and try to find out how they introduce new music.  Do they run challenges?  Polls?  Let us know what you discover in the comments section below.

3.    If you haven’t already, try to build a relationship with your favorite radio station.  Request songs, comment on their Facebook or reply to a tweet or two.  Establish yourself as a listener.

The Song Hits Radio

Now that we've heard that the single is available to radio, the first thing you should do is review our Radio Requesting Guide for tips on how to make a positive impact (and avoid making a negative one).  Start out with soft requests such as "looking forward to hearing" or "excited to hear" and save the actual requesting until after you know the station has the song in hand.  And even then, be sensitive to how they roll out new music.

We're all looking forward to our new music to come - let's all pull together as a team to make sure we hear it on the radio from Maine to Virginia and in between! Thanks for your help!

Can't wait to hear and promote new Kris tunes!

Just to get the ball rolling - here's what I've noticed in the DC area as far introducing new music on the radio:

94.7 Freshfm - WIAD - They are probably the most likely station in DC proper to give a new song a chance. They have an "insiders club" that I'd encourage all DMV Kris fans to sign up for. Lots of contests (I can say that I've won a CD and another LP member won Lifehouse tickets) but even better, the chance to frequently rate the music they play on air. I notice they test out songs on the survey they email you before they play them. Here is the link to sign up: http://insiders.947freshfm.radio.com/main.aspx.

Hot 99.5 WIHT - Despite Toby's many blog postings, I notice they just play new songs. What I've really noticed though, is they'll give them one or two random spins, usually on weekends or evenings. I'm guessing that if they get a good response, they'll keep playing them and if not, they won't. Confusing though - even when they've gotten a good response to music that fits in on their station, they still might not play it. Since I have a teen, I know that One Direction and Big Time Rush fans are not very happy with Hot 99.5's response to their requests. Adam fans have been requesting his song, and so far the station has just spun it on its iheartradio stream while airing a commercial on DC airwaves. So still figuring out Hot 99.5. (It's a Clear Channel station, so it may be a corporate decision from above.)

B101.5 WBQB in Fredericksburg - This is the most new music friendly station. It's the only one in the DMV playing Adam's new song as well as Andy Grammer's new song, and it's playing both regularly. It also plays LLWD regularly. I'm not sure how it makes its decisions, it seems to just start playing the songs.

Mix 107.3 WRQX - I don't really listen to this station so am not sure how they do the new music. Their playlist is more varied (read has more oldies). They used to do a New at Nine segment and the Truth would be played during that. Even though they got great feedback on it, they didn't add it. They've dropped the segment since and added even more oldies from what I can tell.

So that's DC area - let's hear how they try out the new music in your area (and if DMVers have info to add to mine, please do)

For Delaware:

WSTW, has spun the Vision of Love twice as of this posting.

Their DJ posted on Facebook:  Last Song Standing is one of the many tools we use for music selection. It's a good indicator of which newer songs our listeners enjoy. Since LSS is only one of the tools we use, there is no guarantee that the winning song will end up on our playlist.

Still - local (Wilmington, DE listening area which extends into PA and NJ) folks should request and vote in this poll. The poll is held at 10 pm EST. All station contact info can be found on our radio list linked at top of thread.
